Swiss-Wrist , Swiss-Wrist.com , Swiss-Wrist.com Rolex Accessories: Various Available Bracelet Styles

Rolex watches are known for their unique bracelet style. The bracelets manufactured by Rolex are of supreme quality to complement the world-renowned Rolex wristwatches. Although Rolex offers many watch models featuring high quality leather bands in attractive colors, the bracelets offered with Rolex watches have a special place in the hearts of Rolex enthusiasts.

Basic Bracelet Styles

There are three basic bracelet styles available for Rolex wristwatches. They are:

1. Oyster Bracelet: Perhaps the most popular and identifiable Rolex bracelet style. It easily can be distinguished from other bracelet styles by its broader polished center links set off by narrower brushed-finish links on the sides.

Rolex offers some great jewelry options for the Oyster bracelet. If you want to wear an expensive and exclusive Oyster bracelet option, you can select any one of the following:

  • Super Oyster Karat bracelet embedded with 100/174/270/286 round shaped diamonds
  • Super Oyster Karat bracelet embedded with 100 pink sapphires
  • Super Oyster Karat bracelet embedded with 100 sky-blue sapphires
  • Super Oyster Karat bracelet embedded with 174 small round shaped diamonds and 14 large diamonds/emeralds/rubies/sapphires

2. Jubilee Bracelet: The Jubilee bracelet was introduced in 1945 when Rolex rolled out one of its most popular watch models: the Datejust. The Jubilee bracelet style renders a very stylish look to the watch. You can identify this bracelet by its center link that comprises three separate lines of highly-polished links. On the sides of the center link are narrower links with a brushed finish.

Of all varieties available in the Jubilee bracelet, those available in bark finish are a consistently popular style. Jubilee bracelets also offer jewelry options such as the following:

  • Super Oyster Karat bracelet embedded with 100/174/270/286 round shaped diamonds
  • Super Oyster Karat bracelet embedded with 100 pink sapphires
  • Super Oyster Karat bracelet embedded with 100 sky-blue sapphires
  • Super Oyster Karat bracelet embedded with 174 small round shaped diamonds and 14 large diamonds/emeralds/rubies/sapphires

3. President Bracelet: The President Bracelet was introduced with the Rolex Day Date models in 1954. This bracelet became popular for its powerful appearance. It features polished center links perfectly complemented by the brushed-finish links on both sides of the center links, similar to those in Oyster bracelets. However, the difference between the Oyster and President bracelets lies in the number of links. In the case of President bracelets, there are more links (23 or 24 in men's Day Date models and 36 in ladies' Presidential models) as opposed to the Oyster bracelets that usually come with only 12 or 13 links. This is because the links in the Oyster bracelets are larger than those in the President bracelets.

The different jewelry options available in the President bracelets are very popular for their exceptional beauty. These bracelets fall on the higher end of the price continuum. The cost, however, is clearly reflected in the high quality of precision artistry. Some of the varieties of the President bracelets include:

  • Super President Baguette bracelet featuring 50/74 round cut diamonds and 23/35 baguette cut diamonds
  • Super President Karat bracelet embedded with 204/288/348/443/460 round cut diamonds

In addition to these high-end options, you can also choose from other popular styles such as the President bracelet in bark finish and the Super President bracelet in 18k yellow gold with center links in white and pink gold.

Additional Bracelet Varieties

Apart from the three primary types of bracelets, the following varieties are also offered on Rolex watches:

  • Super President Baguette bracelet featuring 50/74 round cut diamonds and 23/35 baguette cut diamonds
  • The Mesh (Flat) Bracelet
  • The Moire Bracelet
  • The Damier Bracelet
  • The Milanese Bracelet
  • The Chevrons Bracelet
  • The Chameleon (Brick) Bracelet
  • The Chameleon (Mesh) Bracelet
  • The Mesh Florentine Bracelet

All of the above bracelet varieties are set apart from the regular bracelets by their style and uniqueness. As a result, you can wear them as fashion accessories--in the following sizes:

  • Standard Ladies' Bracelet Size: 13mm and 14mm
  • Standard Mid-Sized Bracelets (also known as Boy's Size): 17mm
  • Standard Men's Bracelet Size: 19mm and 20mm

Different Metal Options Available for Bracelets

Rolex offers bracelets in various metals according to the type of material used in making the case of the watch. In fact, the 5-digit and 6-digit Case Reference Number engraved on every Rolex model bears an identification number for the material used in the bracelet. The last digit of the Case Reference Number signifies the material of the case and the bracelet. Let us have a look

Swiss-Wrist , Swiss-Wrist.com , Swiss-Wrist.com The Rolex Explorer vs. the Rolex Explorer II

The Rolex Explorer and the Rolex Explorer II are two popular sport models that fall under the professional line of wristwatches. Sharing the same name, both these models are meant for real adventure-lovers.

Explorer and Explorer II: Satisfying Different Needs

The Rolex Explorer, successfully tested during the first human conquest of Mt. Everest in 1953, is a special watch designed for harsh conditions. It can comfortably withstand temperatures from -20 degrees to +40 degrees centigrade. On the other hand, Explorer II was specially designed for the speleologists (cave explorers), who work inside deep caverns for days on end. While working deep inside caves with no natural sources of light, it can be easy to lose track of time and even whether or not it is day or night. To solve this problem, Rolex designed the Explorer II. The extra 24-hour hand (initially orange in color but now red) on the Explorer II, when used against the 24-hour graduated bezel, helps to distinguish day from night by clearly differentiating AM from PM. The Rolex Explorer does not feature this special 24-hour hand or a fixed bezel engraved with a 24-hour track.

Another major difference between the Explorer and Explorer II is also technical in nature. The Rolex Explorer II is equipped with the “Jump Hour” feature not present in the Explorer models. This feature enables the wearer to set the hour hand forward or backwards in one hour "jumps" without disturbing the second or minute hands.

Similarities Between the Explorer and Explorer II

Although the Rolex Explorer II was designed specifically for speleologists and mountaineers, other adventure-lovers benefit from using this model as well, as it functions perfectly in all kinds of extremes. Some of the commonalities between the Explorer and Explorer II models include the following:

  • Both are made of solid stainless steel with no other options available.
  • Both are self-winding and waterproof to 100 meters or 330 feet.
  • Both feature a synthetic sapphire crystal like other Rolex models.
  • Both come with an Oysterlock bracelet with the safety clasp and Mercedes-style hands.
  • Mercedes-style hands have been introduced in the current versions of both of these sport models.
  • Like in other Rolex watches, both these models feature luminous Tritium fillings in place of Radium.

Although some basic features (as mentioned above) are common between the Explorer and the Explorer II, and are found in other Rolex models as well, these two models are distinguishable from each other in terms of both their looks and certain specific technical aspects.

Swiss-Wrist , Swiss-Wrist.com , Swiss-Wrist.com The Rolex Yacht-Master II

A recent innovation in the Rolex line is the Yacht-Master II, the first watch ever created with a programmable countdown feature that has a mechanical memory. What sets it completely apart from other Rolex models produced to this very day is its ability to be synchronized for regatta countdowns. This is made possible due to an innovative interaction between bezel and movement. With this Rolex model, you can get the best possible start in regattas. It truly has become a favorite among the professional Yachting class.

The key components and technological aspects present in the highly innovative Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master II include the following:

Countdown Counter: This is a unique feature not present in any other Rolex model. In a semi-circular shape (located between the 8 o'clock and 4 o'clock positions), the countdown counter has demarcations from 0 to 10 minutes. The minute countdown hand shows the minutes remaining on the 10-minute countdown dial.

Countdown Seconds Hand: On the standard 60-second dial, the countdown seconds hand shows the seconds remaining.

Start/Stop Pusher or Button: This button is pressed to start or stop the countdown. It is located near the 2 o'clock position on the side of the case.

Reset Pusher or Button: For setting or programming the countdown and also for synchronizing the countdown, you need to press this button located near the 4 o'clock position.

4160 Movement: The caliber 4160 movement is a highly advanced movement that is used in this model. This movement comprises around 360 components. A new generation chronograph movement, the countdown mechanism is constructed using a column wheel and a vertical clutch. The mechanical programmable countdown function makes it possible for the wearer to program--in advance of the countdown time--the start of a regatta. In fact, it can be used in regattas with different starting sequences.

The other features of this advanced movement include the following:

  • Fully-automatic movement
  • Power reserve of 72 hours
  • Beat rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour
  • 10 times more resistant to shocks and magnetic fields
  • Certified by COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute) for its supreme performance

Rlng Command Bezel: Rotatable at 90 degrees, this special bezel perfectly complements the movement in making the programmable countdown mechanism a success. You need to follow only the following three steps while using this ring command bezel:

  • First, stop the countdown.
  • Turn the bezel 90 degrees counter-clockwise
  • Program the countdown and turn the bezel back to its original position

Programmable Countdown: You can program a countdown of 0 to 10 minutes. The process to be followed is quite simple. After ensuring that the countdown is stopped, turn the ring command bezel 90 degrees counter-clockwise. Afterwards, press the reset pusher and unscrew the winding crown to position one so that you can turn it to set the desired minute. Once you are done with this setting, rotate the bezel back to its position and also push and screw down the winding crown. During the starting sequences, it can be synchronized to the official countdown.

Synchronization: This functionality is important as it may happen that you have started the countdown too early or too late. In such a case, the watch allows you to synchronize without much hassle to the official signal (countdown). All you need to do is press the start/stop button to start the countdown and then press the reset button. Upon doing this, the minute countdown hand repositions itself to the nearest minute (forwards or backwards depending upon whether the official countdown started early or late), while the seconds countdown hand returns to 0.

Cosmetic Features of Yacht-Master II

Like all other current Rolex models, the Yacht-Master II is self-winding and waterproof to a level of 330 feet. Available in case sizes of 29mm, 35mm, 40mm and 43mm, this model is available in Rolesium (steel and platinum combination), 18k yellow gold, and white gold. The Yacht-Master II in Rolesium features a steel case in perfect combination with a platinum dial and platinum rotating bezel. It also comes with an Oysterlock bracelet with safety clasp. The option of Oysterlock with easy link is also available. Some of the most popular dial options available are the white dial and black mother-of-pearl dial. The blue ceramic ring command bezel is also as popular as the platinum or yellow gold bezels.

The Yacht-Master II is truly an innovative model. The expert technicians and engineers at Rolex designed and manufactured each and every tiny component used in the movement to perfection, setting yet another example of its dominance in watchmaking.

Swiss-Wrist , Swiss-Wrist.com , Swiss-Wrist.com Complete Overhaul and Refurbishment of a Rolex Watch

Rolex watches are made with precision craftsmanship, taking into account every small detail. Such attention to quality is why Rolex has been successful in receiving the chronometer certified status for every watch it sells. In order to retain the perfection of these watches as accurate timekeeping devices, proper servicing is required at an interval of at least 5 years. However, in the case of watches meant for divers such as the Rolex Submariner and the Sea-Dweller, it is advisable to take the watch to a Rolex Service Center every 18 months to test its waterproof status.

In the case of pre-owned Rolex watches, accuracy in functionality and the watch's appearance are both of prime importance. Every pre-owned Rolex from Melrose Jewelers undergoes a comprehensive 5-hour process of restoration to Rolex's original factory specifications--including complete internal overhaul and servicing as well as external scratch-removal and polishing--so your Rolex looks, feels, and functions like a brand new Rolex.

A Complete Overhauling of Your Rolex at the Rolex Service Center

Rolex Service Centers are authorized centers for servicing Rolex watches. They undertake a thorough overhauling process that starts with Visual Identification Inspection and ends at Quality Control. The servicing is undertaken only after a proper diagnosis of the watch is done for its appearance and performance. Here is a closer look at the steps taken in the overhauling process:

· Visual Identification Inspection: It is a standard procedure for every Rolex Service Center to undertake the Visual Identification Inspection with the twin objective to trace any stolen Rolex and to identify any counterfeit watch part. In either case, the watch will be confiscated by the Service Center. In addition, if aftermarket accessories have been fitted to your Rolex, they are replacevd with genuine Rolex parts while servicing in order to ensure the quality of the performance. During the inspection, the watch's reference and serial numbers are recorded as well.

· Thorough Diagnosis of Your Rolex: The diagnosis is done by an expert technician to identify any error related to the appearance or operation of your Rolex. The technician makes a list of all defects in order to correct them in the later stages of the process when the servicing starts. A visual diagnosis immediately is followed by a testing for the timekeeping functionality. During this period, the watch is tested for accuracy, photo-mechanically, in four (sometimes five) different positions for 24 hours. This extensive examination provides a clear picture in regards to the operational accuracy of your Rolex watch.

· Servicing of the Movement and Other Crucial Rolex Parts: Servicing starts with the complete disassembling of the movement so that every intricate part can be cleaned thoroughly. Since the movement may contain lubricants that have hardened, a special solution is used to help in dissolving any dirt particles that might have accumulated inside the movement. During this stage, all worn out parts and seals, including the winding crown and the case tube, are replaced with genuine Rolex parts.

· Cleaning and Polishing: The Oyster case and the bracelet are cleaned and hand-polished. The bracelet also receives repairs for any worn out part, disjoint link, or other defect. To maintain the same standards that Rolex follows while making these watches, the Rolex Service Center cleans and polishes the watch using advanced ultrasonic technology.

· Series of Quality Control Tests: Once your Rolex receives a thorough cleaning, polishing and servicing, it has to pass a series of rigorous quality tests such as a pressure proof test and a timekeeping test. The pressure proof test is conducted on the Oyster case without the movement inside. A special tank, called a “Mariotte” meter and equipped with high tech electronics, is used for this test. Inside the tank, a vacuum air-pressure is created to test the watch at its guaranteed depth. A similar test is also conducted during the making of Rolex watches. As a direct consequence, once you service your Rolex at a Rolex Service Center, you can be assured of receiving the same quality in your watch as a brand new Rolex exhibits. After the watch passes the pressure proof test, it is installed with the movement, re-lubricated, and tested for accuracy in timekeeping. If it shows any minor deviations, a special Rolex device called the “Microstella Tool” is used to make micro adjustments to correct those deviations. Once this test is also cleared, the watch is prepared for a final pressure proof test in the Mariotte meter vacuum tank.

· Final Quality Check by an Expert: Before handing over the watch to the customer, an expert technician makes a final quality inspection to ensure that the watch is functioning as new, both in appearance and in operation.

Every Rolex Service Center charges overhauling or servicing fees if the servicing of the watch does not fall in the warranty period. Once the servicing is done and the payment received, they issue a one-year warranty on the serviced Rolex. This warranty is accepted at every Rolex Service Center located across the globe. It is not recommended to go for the complete overhaul every time you take your watch to a service center. Often, the condition of your watch only requires partial servicing in the form of replacement of crystal, stem, crown, or dial refinishing.

Swiss-Wrist , Swiss-Wrist.com , Swiss-Wrist.com Rolex Realizes its Dream of Going Underwater

Rolex is a renowned brand for its innovative, exclusive, and precise watches. Rolex keeps coming up with special timekeeping devices every few years. By the late 1920s, Rolex had already established itself as the creator of the world's first successful waterproof watch. That, however, did not stop it from dreaming more; instead, it decided to come up with a "Divers' Watch."

The dream of Rolex to create a watch that could survive deep under the water materialized when an experimental watch known as the "Deep Sea Special" attached to the outside of Professor Auguste Piccard's famous bathyscaphe FNRS-2 was successfully tested to a depth of 10,336 feet on September 30, 1953. This success led Rolex to introduce the world's first diver's watch commercially. This watch was named "The Rolex Submariner." All of these early Submariner models--namely the 6200, 6204, and 6205--introduced during the 1950s made their presence felt in the market.

However, Rolex wanted to push its limits further and come up with something even more astonishing. In fact, it became successful in its endeavor when Piccard's new bathyscaphe, the Trieste, made its journey to the world's deepest ocean floor in the Marianas Trench on January 23, 1960. This time, the Rolex model 7205/0 known as "Piccard" also accompanied it and successfully withstood pressures at a depth of 35,798 feet (11,000 meters). With this, Rolex made its name in the world of reliable diver's watches, as the media had a huge response to the success of the "Piccard" and it became the talk of the moment.

Today, Rolex manufactures the popular Submariner and Sea-Dweller watch models--both targeted towards deep sea divers. Very few watch companies have been able to create watches that match the perfection and accuracy of Rolex diver's watches.

Swiss-Wrist , Swiss-Wrist.com , Swiss-Wrist.com 2009 Rolex Release - New Rolex Datejust II Review

Rolex finally unveiled Date-Just II at Baselworld 2009 as all Rolex watches lovers expected. Though Baselworld 2009 just recently closed, there already appears hundreds of articles about Rolex 2009 new releases. Rolex Date-Just II, in particular, draws great attention with some noticeable changes.

Rolex came with four 41mm Date-Just II models and eight 36mm Date-Just II models at Baselworld 2009. Rolex men's watch first had 41mm model on Day-Date II in 2008, this year was Date-Just II's turn. One Two-Tone 41mm Datejust II model uses green theme Roman numbers and a baton marker with luminescence at 9 o'clock. The green elements first appeared at Basel 2004. GMT Master II, Anniversary Submariner, and Milgauss 116400GV are all beneficiaries of green elements. Personally, I love green which is fresh and vivid. But I never thought it could display its charm on watches till Rolex made it true. Two of other Rolex Date-Just II models apply Arabic markers. One in two-tone and the other in white gold and stainless steel. Noticeable is that the arabic numerals on white gold version presents something purple. The last 41mm Date-Just II keeps more tradition looking with baton markers. I am a little disappointed about the combination of fluted bezels and Oyster bracelet on these four models. In eyes of mine, fluted bezels goes better with Jubillee bracelet.

Female Rolex watches lovers may cheer as they are spoiled with eight 36mm Date-Just II this year. Obviously, Now Date-Just now tries to attract more female customers. In another word, Rolex Date-Just now is being transformed from a men's watch line to a unisex watch line. As a woman, these Date-Just II of feminine slant do take my breath away. And my favorite model is the one features grey dial and flower patterns.
